Prague Václav Havel Airport flight delay or cancellation: what are your rights?
Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) is the Czech Republic's main international gateway, with Smartwings operating scheduled and holiday services, and Ryanair, Wizz Air and a wide set of European carriers running dense point-to-point schedules. EU261 sets fixed compensation when you reach your final destination three or more hours late: €250 for routes up to 1,500 km, €400 for 1,500 to 3,500 km, and €600 above 3,500 km.
A cancellation announced with less than fourteen days' notice and involuntary denied boarding carry the same amounts, per passenger and independent of the fare.

Which rules apply at Prague
The Czech Republic is an EU member state, so EU261 covers every departure from Prague whatever airline operates it, seasonal charters included. Arrivals from outside the EU/EEA are covered only when the operating carrier is an EU/EEA or UK airline — the usual limitation on long-haul returns flown by non-European carriers. On a single-booking itinerary connecting through another hub, both the three-hour test and the distance band are measured against the final destination rather than the leg that failed.
What to do at the airport
Ask the airline to state its reason in writing and keep the message. Note when the aircraft doors opened at your final destination, because that is the timestamp the three-hour threshold is judged against. Duty of care begins at two hours on short routes, three on medium and four on long-haul: meals, refreshments, communication and a hotel with transfers for an overnight wait, owed whatever the cause. Keep receipts for anything you have to buy when nothing is offered.
Which Prague delays still earn compensation?
Prague's schedule leans on tight low-cost and holiday rotations, so a late inbound aircraft early in the day tends to echo through the evening departures. Winter snow and de-icing, summer thunderstorms across Central Europe and air traffic flow restrictions in the region's increasingly crowded airspace all feature regularly. Technical faults, crew shortages and commercial consolidation remain within the airline's control and compensable. When extraordinary circumstances are invoked, the airline carries the burden of proof — its own staff striking is generally not extraordinary, while air traffic control or airport-staff strikes usually are.
Claiming for a flight from Prague
Start with the free eligibility check to confirm the regulation and the band. We submit the claim, press the airline for evidence where a refusal arrives unsupported, and keep the claim moving; unresolved Czech disputes can be escalated to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic, the national enforcement body for EU261. The eligibility check is free. If we recover your compensation we charge a fixed EUR 39 success fee — the same whether you're owed EUR 250 or EUR 600. No win, no fee.
