Warsaw Chopin Airport flight delay or cancellation: what are your rights?
Warsaw Chopin Airport is Poland's main international gateway and the hub of LOT Polish Airlines, whose network links Central and Eastern Europe with Western Europe, North America and Asia; Wizz Air and other European carriers add substantial point-to-point traffic. EU261 sets fixed compensation when you reach your final destination three or more hours late: €250 for routes up to 1,500 km, €400 for 1,500 to 3,500 km, and €600 above 3,500 km.
Cancellations notified with less than fourteen days' notice and involuntary denied boarding trigger the same figures.

Which rules apply at Warsaw Chopin
Poland is an EU member state, so EU261 covers every departure from Chopin whatever airline operates it. Arrivals into Warsaw are covered only when an EU or EEA carrier is flying — LOT's long-haul returns from New York, Chicago or Seoul are therefore inside the regulation, while the same routes on non-European carriers would not be. LOT's hub model means many journeys connect through Warsaw on one booking; in that case both the delay test and the distance band are measured against the final destination.
What to do at the airport
Ask the airline for its reason in writing and keep the message. Record when the aircraft doors opened at your final destination — the timestamp the three-hour threshold is judged against. Duty of care begins at two hours on short routes, three on medium and four on long-haul: meals, refreshments, communication and a hotel with transfers for an overnight wait, whatever the cause. Keep receipts for reasonable spending if nothing is provided.
What causes delays at Warsaw Chopin?
Chopin runs a busy hub schedule from a city-centre airfield, so late inbound aircraft and tight rotations are familiar sources of delay. Winter snow and de-icing, summer thunderstorms across Central Europe and air traffic flow restrictions in the region's increasingly crowded airspace all feature regularly. Technical faults, crew shortages and schedule consolidation remain within the airline's control and compensable. Where extraordinary circumstances are pleaded, the airline must prove them: its own staff striking is generally not extraordinary, while air traffic control or airport-staff strikes usually are.
Claiming for a flight from Warsaw Chopin
The free eligibility check confirms whether EU261 applies and which band your route falls into. We submit and pursue the claim and challenge refusals that arrive without evidence; unresolved Polish disputes can be escalated to the Rzecznik Praw Pasażerów, Poland's passenger rights ombudsman. The eligibility check is free. If we recover your compensation we charge a fixed EUR 39 success fee — the same whether you're owed EUR 250 or EUR 600. No win, no fee.
