What is a Rhodes flight delay or cancellation worth?

Rhodes runs a short, intense season built almost entirely on northern European holiday traffic.

Greece is in the EU, so EU261 covers every flight out of Rhodes. Land three or more hours late at your final destination and the airline owes a fixed sum. Routes to the UK, Germany and Scandinavia run roughly 2,000 to 3,000 km, which puts them in the €400 band.

Does EU261 cover every flight from Rhodes?

Greece is in the EU, so EU261 covers every departure from Rhodes, whoever flies it. A non-European airline leaving here is bound on the same terms as a European one.

An arrival into Rhodes is narrower. It is covered only when an EU or EEA airline operates the flight. A flight in from outside Europe on a non-European airline falls outside the rules, even though it lands in the EU.

The sums are fixed by distance, never by the fare:

Flight distanceCompensation per passengerRoutes from Rhodes
Up to 1,500 km€250Shorter routes inside Greece
1,500 to 3,500 km€400UK, Germany and Scandinavia, roughly 2,000 to 3,000 km
Over 3,500 km€600 (€400 if the flight is within the EU)—

A cancellation inside fourteen days pays the same, and so does denied boarding.

Does an air traffic control strike end a Rhodes claim?

Usually it does end the compensation, but not the rest of your rights.

A strike by air traffic controllers is third-party industrial action, and it usually counts as an extraordinary circumstance. The airline still owes you a new flight or a refund, plus meals and a hotel if you are kept overnight.

A strike by the airline's own crew is different, and usually not extraordinary. And either way the airline must prove the strike caused your flight's disruption, not merely that one happened that week.

What delays flights at Rhodes, and which causes pay?

The summer peak packs a season's flying into a few months. Tight rotations mean a morning problem often shows up as an evening delay, and congestion across Greek and wider European airspace adds to it.

Strong seasonal winds affect island sectors. Weather can be an extraordinary circumstance, but the airline has to show it. Technical faults and crew shortages are the airline's own doing, so the money still stands.

How do you claim Rhodes flight delay compensation?

Start with the flight itself. Our free flight check reads the recorded departure and arrival times for your flight from Rhodes and tells you which band it falls in.

Your Rhodes compensation claim turns on two things: the arrival time, and the reason the airline gives.

For a late arrival, read the flight delay compensation guide. For a flight that never flew, read the cancellation compensation guide. It covers Rhodes cancellation compensation too. Has the airline said no? The case law summary sets out what the courts make of the usual excuses.

What you need to claim

  • Your flight number and date
  • The airports you flew between
  • Roughly how late you arrived
  • Your booking reference, if you still have it

No boarding pass? We can usually work from the flight number and date alone.

How much is a delayed flight from Rhodes worth?

€400 a passenger on most northern European routes, which run between 1,500 and 3,500 km. Shorter routes inside Greece pay €250, and you are owed it once you land three or more hours late.

My flight was cancelled the day before. Can I claim?

Yes, if the airline gave you less than fourteen days' notice and the cause was within its control. Compare the replacement flight with the original: the notice tiers turn on how early it leaves and how late it lands.

Air traffic control was on strike. Do I get anything?

Probably not compensation, since a controllers' strike is usually an extraordinary circumstance. You are still owed a refund or a new flight, and meals and a hotel while you wait.
