Oslo Gardermoen flight delay or cancellation: what are your rights?
Oslo Gardermoen is Norway's main airport and a principal base for both Norwegian and SAS, with Widerøe feeding an extensive domestic network and a mix of European and long-haul services on top.
Norway is not in the EU, but as an EEA member it applies EU261 in full, so the standard bands apply: €250 for routes up to 1,500 km, €400 for 1,500 to 3,500 km, and €600 above 3,500 km when you arrive at your final destination three or more hours late. Cancellations notified inside fourteen days and involuntary denied boarding trigger the same amounts.

Which rules apply at Oslo
As an EEA airport, Gardermoen is treated exactly like an EU airport: every departure is covered whatever the operating airline, and arrivals are covered when an EU or EEA carrier — which includes Norwegian, SAS and Widerøe — operates the flight. Norway's long domestic sectors remain in the €250 band, while European routes beyond 1,500 km move to €400 and long-haul to €600. Connections on one booking are measured against the final destination for both the delay test and the band.
What should you do at Gardermoen while you wait?
Ask for the airline's reason in writing and keep the notification. Note when the aircraft doors opened at your final destination, the timestamp the three-hour test uses. Duty of care starts at two hours on short routes, three on medium and four on long-haul: meals, refreshments, communication and a hotel with transfers for an overnight wait, whatever the cause. Keep receipts if you have to provide for yourself.
How does winter at Gardermoen affect your claim?
Winter defines Gardermoen's operation: snow clearance, de-icing queues and low visibility reduce capacity for months at a time, and cold-weather technical issues add to it. Tight rotations at Norwegian and SAS spread a morning delay through the day, and European air traffic flow restrictions reach Oslo too. Severe weather can be extraordinary, but the airline must prove it caused your delay and that all reasonable measures were taken. Its own crew striking is generally not extraordinary; air traffic control or airport-staff strikes usually are.
How do you claim for an Oslo flight, and where can a refusal go?
The free eligibility check confirms EU261 coverage and the correct band. We submit the claim, chase the airline and challenge refusals that arrive without evidence; unresolved Norwegian disputes can be escalated to Transportklagenemnda, Norway's transport complaints board, which handles air passenger rights cases. The eligibility check is free. If we recover your compensation we charge a fixed EUR 39 success fee — the same whether you're owed EUR 250 or EUR 600. No win, no fee.
How to claim Oslo Gardermoen compensation
Start with the flight itself. Our free flight check reads the recorded times for your flight from Oslo Gardermoen and tells you which band it falls in, in about two minutes.
A Oslo Gardermoen compensation claim turns on two things: the arrival time, and the reason the airline gives.
For a late arrival, read the flight delay compensation guide. For a flight that never flew, read the cancellation compensation guide. It covers Oslo Gardermoen cancellation compensation too. Has the airline said no? The case law summary sets out what the courts make of the usual excuses.
What you need to claim
- Your flight number and date
- The airports you flew between

No boarding pass? We can usually work from the flight number and date alone.
