Which rules apply at Corfu

Greece is in the EU, so EU261 covers every departure from Corfu, whoever flies it. A non-European airline leaving here is bound on the same terms as a European one.

An arrival into Corfu is narrower. It is covered only when an EU or EEA airline operates the flight. A flight in from outside Europe on a non-European airline falls outside the rules, even though it lands in the EU.

The sums are fixed by distance, never by the fare:

• €250 on routes up to 1,500 km
• €400 between 1,500 and 3,500 km
• €600 beyond 3,500 km

A cancellation inside fourteen days pays the same, and so does denied boarding.

Does a Greek air traffic control strike end my claim?

A strike by air traffic controllers is third-party industrial action, and it usually counts as an extraordinary circumstance. The airline still owes you a new flight or a refund, plus meals and a hotel if you are kept overnight.

A strike by the airline's own crew is different, and usually not extraordinary. And either way the airline must prove the strike caused your flight's disruption, not merely that one happened that week.

What goes wrong at Corfu

The summer peak packs a season's flying into a few months. Tight rotations mean a morning problem often shows up as an evening delay, and congestion across Greek and wider European airspace adds to it.

Strong seasonal winds affect island sectors. Weather can be an extraordinary circumstance, but the airline has to show it. Technical faults and crew shortages are the airline's own doing, so the money still stands.
