With less than 14 days' notice, €250–€600 per passenger depending on route distance (£220–£520 under UK261), plus rebooking or a full refund — your choice — and meals and a hotel while you wait. The airline escapes compensation only by proving extraordinary circumstances, and the burden of proof is on them.

The airline blamed weather or air-traffic control. Is that the end of it?

No. Weather and ATC restrictions can be extraordinary circumstances, but a one-line claim is not evidence — the airline must show the specific conditions made your specific flight's cancellation unavoidable. Technical faults and the airline's own crew shortages or strikes generally do NOT qualify as extraordinary.

My flight isn't in this list. Can I still claim?

Does EU261 apply to flights to Turkey?

Any flight DEPARTING an EU/EEA airport is covered by EU261, and any flight departing the UK by UK261, regardless of airline or destination — so outbound holiday flights are protected. The return leg is covered by EU261 when the operating carrier is an EU airline, and by UK261 into the UK on a UK or EU airline. Non-European carriers flying you home are the main gap.
